Wizard Death’s “intro” is Like a Light-Filled Journey to a Realm of Pure Relaxation

Wizard Death doesn’t demand much of your time with “intro.” The track lasting just one minute fifty employs samples of bird sound to establish a wide sense of space while finely syncopated electronic percussion provide the pacing and forward texture as bell tones seem to luminesce in sequence to suggest motion in melody that floats with a sense of expansive and uplifting moods with a gentle momentum. Like being carried in a mystical conveyance of pure energy that takes you from everyday life to realms of relaxation and nourishment. Wizard Death’s Ambient IDM track “hvn” Encourages Environmental Awareness and Mindfulness

Mckone Corkery’s video for Wizard Death’s “hvn” juxtaposes images of nature with the industry and development that threatens it along with the human occupation of said environment. The sky color is keyed out of blue into a hazy purple pink at times and the chill beat with ambient tonal swells, softened electronic percussion and melodic arpeggios of the song sets a hopeful tone suggesting our often too easy comfort with our impact on the world around us whether the natural environment or upon each other. The song and the video invite us to consider being attentive to subtle details that can affect our mood for the positive or otherwise. The awareness this pairing of imagery and music cultivates without being dramatic or overly intrusive is one way to encourage mindfulness without combativeness. Wizard Death Teams Up With Easy Sleeper For the Ambient Post-Rock Chiller Track “we watched the sunset (through the window to the studio)”

Wizard Death is lo-fi, ambient hip-hop project of Alex Lubeck who featured his indie rock band Easy Sleeper on the song with the Boards of Canada-esque title “we watched the sunset (through the window to the studio).” The downtempo pace of the song allows its tones to ring out warmly as a simple synth arpeggio traces its own pace like like it’s accenting the overall rhythm. The guitar and bass give the otherwise ethereal song a textural grounding that works to not just create a great, languid and soothing mood but a depth of sound that is impossible to pigeonhole to a specific genre of music. It could be an ambient track, it could be a super chill hip-hop beat that would work well for a song that starts off with casual observations that follows those thoughts into deeper places. Either way, the relatively short song is evocative in its deceptive simplicity giving it repeated listenability on its own terms.
