Domus and Guest Singer Ljung Evoke the Sense of Mystery and Imagination of Nature on the Edge of Civilization on “Canada”

The video for “Canada” by Domus, directed by Marcus Malmström, gives us the hazy, enigmatic night time imagery of traveling on lonely rural highways and wandering in mysterious spaces, and a wolf whose image phases as though traversing multiple dimensions at the same time. All while guest singer Ljung’s vocals drift in to add to the impressionistic composition with ethereal couplets that weave together perfectly with the languorous pace as synths swirl out in slow, hypnotic rosettes of tone accented by a melodic, distinct bass line. The song is based on impressions one of the songwriters had of his visit to Canada so he must have been through in spring or fall with the murky weather and lightning without the snow, when the world is not yet woken up from winter or preparing for the long slumber thereof. It speaks to the allure of a world where nature and urban living are so close together and making for a culture that isn’t so disconnected from the spiritual aspect of the uniqueness of the environment. Domus Searches For the Spark of Life’s Inspiration in the Dream-like Sounds of “Canada”

“Canada,” the second single from Domus forthcoming album, comes in with a meditative dynamic, like a slow-motion motorik beat, as synths are joined by minimal guitar and distinct, melodic bass accents. Guest vocalist Ljung’s languid voice wanders into sonic frame, sometimes processed and sometimes not to suit the moment. The introspective lyrics seem to be about reconnecting with the spark in one’s life and searching in unlikely places guided by intuition and a sense of where a similarly stimulating experience or setting might exist when encountered. The sense of low key but deep yearning is palpable as the late night pace wends forward with a sense of the inevitability of that encounter even if the song is caught in dreamlike contemplation of the needs of the spirit. “Weightless Dreams” by Domus is the Sound of an Inspiring and Forward Thinking Future

“Weightless Dreams” by Domus is like music for a video game about exploring the ruins of the home world of a benevolent galaxies-spanning civilization that left behind technologies that welcome and reward curiosity and productive engagement with the world. A sense of wonder imbues its almost 8-bit, Metroid-esque minus a sense of foreboding, soundscape. You can almost see the moving sculptures in Rube Goldberg device fashion on a faraway planet as you float from place to place powered by gentle force fields. If Buckminster Fuller had tried his hand at science fiction this would be the soundtrack, one that dares to imagine an inspiring and forward thinking future—an anti-dystopia.
